Efficient police force vital for peaceful society: Mizoram CM

Aizawl, July 18 (IANS) Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Saturday said that an efficient and professional police force is the cornerstone of a peaceful and orderly society, asserting that nations with capable law enforcement agencies can ensure greater public security, stability, and harmony.

Addressing the passing‑out parade of the 70th batch of Police Constables at the Police Training School (PTS) in Thenzawl, Serchhip district, the Chief Minister stressed that good conduct and quality service by the police elevate the state’s image, reassure the public, and build trust in the government.

Congratulating the newly graduated constables and their families, he highlighted that government recruitment is now conducted transparently under the principle of “Equality for All,” which has restored the youth’s faith in the system.

Lalduhoma, an IPS officer-turned-politician, emphasised that the 275 new police personnel standing in the parade were selected through a fair, competitive process based purely on merit, without political backing or favouritism.

“We expect qualified personnel to deliver quality service to our state,” he said, adding that the government is committed to efficiency and will reject unqualified candidates.

He noted that scrutiny also extends to identifying underperforming personnel currently in service.

Addressing the graduates, who completed 45 weeks of comprehensive training at PTS, Lalduhoma assured them they are now fully equipped to execute their duties confidently.

He urged them to uphold justice without fear or favour when investigating crimes and enforcing the law, reaffirming that the government’s core motto is to establish righteousness and uphold the rule of law.

Expressing concern over the historical loss of police personnel due to alcohol abuse, the Chief Minister reminded officers that physical fitness must remain a lifelong commitment beyond training.

He further stated that the government will continue to modernise the police force, equipping them to counter emerging forms of crime.

Mizoram Director General of Police (DGP) Sharad Agarwal also congratulated the trainees and urged them to maintain strict self‑discipline to keep their minds and bodies sharp. State Home Minister K. Sapdanga was present at the parade.
