Bengaluru: The Karnataka BJP has accused the Congress-led state government of discriminating in the declaration of drought-hit taluks, alleging that farmers are being denied timely relief despite facing severe distress.
In a post on X, the BJP alleged that the Congress government had “betrayed” farmers over the past three years and was now being unfair in identifying drought-affected taluks.
‘More than 190 taluks facing drought’
The BJP cited remarks by Muddebihal Congress MLA C.S. Appaji Nadagouda, who, according to the party, had questioned the government’s drought declaration and financial position.
The opposition party alleged that the government was avoiding its responsibility at a time when farmers needed immediate assistance due to drought conditions. The BJP has previously claimed that more than 190 taluks in Karnataka are affected by drought.
The party also said farmers in Muddebihal should not suffer because of differences between local MLA Appaji Nadagouda and minister M.B. Patil.
BJP demands revision of drought list
Targeting Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, the BJP demanded an immediate review and revision of the list of drought-hit taluks.
The party urged the government to ensure that all genuinely drought-affected areas are included and that farmers do not face injustice while seeking relief.
The BJP also called for immediate measures to address the difficulties faced by farmers and accused the state government of failing to respond adequately to the worsening situation.
The allegations come amid continued political exchanges between the ruling Congress and opposition BJP over drought assessment, relief measures and the financial assistance being extended to affected farmers across Karnataka.
