Delhi L-G reviews fire service’s Summer Action Plan

New Delhi, April 16 (IANS) Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Thursday reviewed the Delhi Fire Service’s Summer Action Plan, focusing on modernisation, infrastructure upgrades, and strengthening personnel capacity to enhance emergency response.

He also reviewed the Department’s Summer Action Plan and directed heightened vigilance in view of the rising temperature.

Sandhu wrote on X, “To risk one’s life in the line of duty so that others may live, this is the essence of real courage. On Fire Service Week, I had the honour of joining the officers of Delhi Fire Service for the ceremonial pinning of the flag and reaffirming our shared commitment: ‘We Serve to Save’.”

This year’s theme is a powerful reminder that fire safety is a collective responsibility. Together, let’s strive to build a safer Delhi, he said.

“While examining the proposed amendments to the Delhi Fire Service Rules, 2010, he emphasised the need for broad-based consultations with residents, businessmen, and traders to ensure the framework is inclusive, practical, and effective,” he wrote.

“Aligned with the vision of Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji, every regulatory framework must promote ‘Ease of Living’ and ‘Ease of Doing Business’ — ensuring robust fire safety without creating unnecessary hurdles for citizens,” he wrote.

“In view of the rising summer temperatures, the Department also reviewed its Summer Action Plan and directed heightened vigilance. Additionally, the LG stressed the importance of a comprehensive public awareness campaign to educate citizens on preventive measures, regulatory safeguards, and effective emergency response practices,” wrote the LG.

Later, Sadhu visited DDA’s Swabhiman Apartments in Jailorwala Bagh, Ashok Vihar today – a flagship project realising PM Shri @narendramodiJi’s vision of “Jahan Jhuggi, Wahin Makan.”

In a message on X, he said, “These modern pucca multi-storey homes with ownership rights mark a significant step towards ensuring dignity, security, and pride for the most marginalised sections of society. Truly a landmark initiative with the potential to be replicated across the country.”

In the spirit of citizen-centric governance, I interacted with residents who expressed their gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for these homes. They also highlighted concerns such as seepage, garbage mismanagement, irregular lift functioning in some towers, and issues caused by miscreants.

The LG said he had issued clear directives to DDA officials, the District Administration, and the Delhi Police to address these issues on priority and ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment.
