New Delhi, July 21 (IANS) In a step towards strengthening Delhi’s healthcare ecosystem and supporting aspiring medical professionals, the Health Department has facilitated the allotment of internship seats to 275 foreign medical graduates (FMGs) following the counselling process, an official said on Tuesday.
The initiative addresses a long-pending concern of FMGs awaiting internship opportunities after qualifying the mandatory examination, enabling them to complete the final requirement for registration and begin serving as medical professionals, said Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh.
Of the total 275 internship seats, 68 seats have been allotted across seven teaching hospitals, including ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital, and NDMC Medical College.
Additionally, 207 seats have been allocated across five non-teaching hospitals, including Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Guru Gobind Singh Hospital (Raghubir Nagar), Jaipur Golden Hospital, BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, and St. Stephen’s Hospital, said Pankaj Kumar Singh.
He said, “The Delhi government is committed to creating opportunities for young medical professionals while simultaneously strengthening the healthcare delivery system. By facilitating internship placements for 275 Foreign Medical Graduates, we have ensured that deserving candidates can complete their professional training without unnecessary delays.”

The Health Department coordinated closely with both teaching and non-teaching hospitals to ensure transparent counselling and equitable seat allocation, enabling the internship process to commence in a timely manner.
This initiative reinforces the Delhi government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure, supporting medical education, and ensuring the availability of qualified healthcare professionals to meet the growing healthcare needs of the National Capital.
