Bengaluru: The Christian Service Association (CSS) has demanded the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), monitored by sitting judges of the Karnataka High Court, to probe the death of Dr C.J. Roy, chairman of the Confident Group, under what it described as “mysterious circumstances”.
In a representation submitted on Saturday, CSS president Shaji T Varghese urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister G. Parameshwara, the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to order an independent and time-bound investigation into the businessman’s death.
Dr Roy, a prominent real estate developer, philanthropist and social worker, was widely respected within the Christian community and beyond, the association said. “The circumstances surrounding his death have raised serious questions. Conflicting versions in media reports have only deepened suspicions,” Varghese said.
The CSS alleged that crucial facts related to the case may be suppressed and pointed to reports suggesting possible involvement of the Income Tax department, calling for clarity through an impartial probe.
“As a member of a minority community and a person who contributed significantly to society and the state, Dr Roy’s death deserves a transparent investigation under judicial supervision,” Varghese said, adding that a High Court-monitored SIT would ensure credibility and public confidence.
The association said it would pursue legal remedies if necessary to ensure that the truth behind the death is established.
