Centre approves over 11 lakh houses for Bihar under Awas Yojana; CM Choudhary thanks PM Modi

Patna, Aug 20 (IANS) The Narendra Modi Government has approved the construction of 11,18,937 permanent houses in Bihar under the PM Awas Yojana, marking a major boost to the state’s housing programme for economically weaker families.

Following the development, Bihar Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary announced the decision and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Samrat Choudhary said the approval would bring new hope to lakhs of families currently living in temporary houses.

He described the decision as an important step toward fulfilling the goal of providing permanent homes to poor families in Bihar.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also announced the approval, saying the government remains committed to ensuring that every poor family gets a permanent home.

He described the allocation of 11,18,937 houses as a significant initiative for Bihar.

The housing approval is expected to benefit eligible families living in inadequate or temporary housing, particularly in rural areas.

The governments have linked the initiative with broader efforts to improve basic amenities and strengthen rural economic activity in the state.

The Centre and Bihar government have described the decision as part of their wider development agenda, with housing, farmer welfare and other public-welfare schemes being implemented alongside infrastructure development.

The approval of more than 11 lakh houses is, therefore, being viewed as a significant step towards expanding permanent housing coverage among Bihar’s poor.

Access to quality housing and essential amenities is key to ensuring a life of dignity for every citizen.

Over the past 12 years, the government has launched several flagship initiatives to provide affordable housing, electricity, clean drinking water and sanitation, especially targeting underserved and rural populations.

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) is implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) since June 25, 2015, to provide pucca houses with basic amenities to all eligible urban beneficiaries.
