New Delhi, July 27 (IANS) Delhi Police have arrested a 25-year-old bootlegger and recovered 250 quarter bottles of illicit liquor during a special operation carried out by the team of Nand Nagri Police Station, officials said on Monday.
According to the police, the operation was conducted on the basis of specific Intelligence regarding the illegal supply of liquor in the area.
On July 26 at around 8:05 p.m., Constable Nempal and Constable Rohan were on routine patrolling duty in the D-Block area of Nand Nagri when they received information from a reliable secret informer. The informer told the police that a man carrying illicit liquor on a scooty would soon arrive from the Mandoli Flyover side to supply liquor in the locality.
The information was immediately shared with the Station House Officer (SHO), who directed the police team to take appropriate legal action. Acting swiftly, the team laid a picket near Kali Mata Mandir in Nand Nagri.
After a brief wait, the police spotted a man matching the description provided by the informer approaching on a scooty carrying suspicious bags. On the informer’s identification, the police intercepted and apprehended the suspect.
The accused was identified as Dev Koli (25), son of Late Dal Chand and a resident of B-2/423, Nand Nagri, Delhi.
During the search, the police recovered 250 quarter bottles of illicit liquor from the bags being transported on the scooty.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 409/2026 under Section 33 of the Delhi Excise Act at Nand Nagri Police Station, and the accused has been arrested.
During sustained interrogation, Dev Koli allegedly confessed to his involvement in the illegal liquor trade and disclosed details about the source of the contraband, police said.
The police also seized the scooty used to transport the illicit liquor. Officials said the accused has no previous criminal record.
Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the illicit liquor and identify other persons involved in the illegal supply network.
