Bihar govt asks Neelam Devi to vacate official residence in Patna by Nov 25

Patna, Oct 26 (IANS) The building construction department of the Bihar government has directed former MLA Neelam Devi, wife of Mokama MLA Anant Singh, to vacate her government-allotted residence in Patna by November 25, 2026, following the cancellation of her nomination to the State-Level 20-Point Programme Implementation Committee.

A formal notice was issued to Neelam Devi by the Joint Secretary-cum-Estate Officer, asking her to vacate Residence No. 01 on Mall Road and complete the required departmental formalities.

The residence was allotted to her through departmental office order No. 73, dated May 19, 2026, when she served as a member of the State-Level Programme Implementation Committee with the status of a Deputy Minister.

However, under notification No. 578 issued by the Cabinet Secretariat Department on October 26, her nomination to the committee was cancelled with immediate effect.

The government has subsequently initiated the process of reclaiming the residence.

The notice cites the Patna Central Pool Rules, 1986. Under Rule 11(2)(1), a person is permitted to retain an official residence for one month after the termination of the position or service on which the allotment was based.

Accordingly, Neelam Devi has been directed to vacate the premises by November 25.

Meanwhile, Purnea MP Pappu Yadav has criticised the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over the developments, accusing them of following a “use-and-throw” approach in politics.

He questioned the treatment of several political figures, including Anant Singh, Anand Mohan, Dinesh Ji, Ajay Mandal and Girdhari Yadav.

Yadav said political parties were entitled to take disciplinary action against MLAs and MPs who violated party rules, but stressed that the same standards should apply to everyone.

He argued that there should be no double standards in enforcing party discipline.

Referring to statements by Anant Singh concerning Ashok Chaudhary and Samrat Choudhary, Pappu Yadav said the Mokama MLA had raised questions about the government’s survival and alleged betrayal.

Yadav reiterated his own criticism of the government and claimed that Anant Singh’s concerns were proving justified.

On Saturday, the Janata Dal (United) expelled Anant Singh and Neelam Devi from the party for six years, citing alleged anti-party activities.

In a statement, Bihar JD(U) president Umesh Singh Kushwaha announced the termination of Anant Singh’s primary membership with immediate effect.

The government’s latest notice marks a further development following the party’s disciplinary action against the couple.
