Patna, Oct 2 (IANS) Police have arrested a brother-sister duo and seized 2.435 kg of heroin, Rs 2.10 lakh in cash and four mobile phones during a raid in Hanuman Nagar village under the Gaighat Police Station area of Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district.
According to police, the accused were allegedly involved in an inter-state drug trafficking network.
The raid was conducted on October 1 following intelligence inputs regarding the delivery of a large consignment of heroin in the area.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shiv Shankar Kumar and his sister, Anshu Kumari.
Rural Superintendent of Police Rajesh Singh Prabhakar, addressing a press conference on Friday, said a special task force had been constituted across the district on the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police to combat crime and drug trafficking.
Following specific information that a consignment of heroin had reached Hanuman Nagar, a police team surrounded the suspected location and conducted a raid.
Police said Shiv Shankar Kumar and Anshu Kumari were apprehended while allegedly attempting to flee.
During a search of the premises, officers allegedly recovered 2.435 kg of heroin packed in 2,015 small plastic sachets, Rs 2.10 lakh in cash and four smartphones.
According to police, the sachets had allegedly been prepared for distribution to individual customers.
An FIR has been registered at Gaighat Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The case has been registered as Case No. 300/26.
Police are investigating the source of the seized narcotics and the intended recipients of the consignment.
The Rural SP claimed that members of the accused’s family had previously been involved in drug trafficking cases.
According to police, Shiv Shankar Kumar’s mother and wife had earlier been arrested and jailed in connection with Benibad Police Station Case No. 25/24 registered under the NDPS Act.
Police alleged that after their arrest, Shiv Shankar Kumar continued the illegal trade with his sister, Anshu Kumari.
Investigators are examining whether the accused had established links with drug suppliers and distributors in other districts and states.
Police are also looking into allegations that the network targeted young people in border areas and around educational institutions.
Police are examining the call detail records (CDRs) of the seized mobile phones to identify suspected contacts and establish the communication network allegedly used for drug distribution.
The financial trail is also under investigation, with officers scrutinising bank accounts and other transactions to identify possible links between the arrested accused, suppliers and other members of the alleged network.
