‘Awareness, precautions key to tackling cancer’: Dr Padmini Prasad at IIIT-B

Bengaluru: Emphasising the importance of preventive healthcare, noted gynaecologist Dr Padmini Prasad said awareness and timely precautions are crucial in combating diseases like Cervical Cancer.

She was speaking at a health awareness programme organised for students of International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B) at Electronic City as part of International Women’s Day initiatives.

Dr Padmini Prasad, who has been leading a series of women’s health campaigns across the state, said lifestyle changes and lack of awareness are contributing to the rise in diseases. She highlighted that while cancer continues to be a major concern among women, early detection and preventive measures can significantly reduce risks.

During the interactive session, she addressed students on topics including physical and mental development, sexual health, gender sensitivity and protection against harassment. She also stressed the importance of informed consent and awareness about sexually transmitted infections.

Responding to questions from students, Dr Padmini Prasad underlined the need for responsible behaviour and better understanding of high-risk factors associated with sexual health. She noted that informed decision-making plays a key role in safeguarding overall well-being.

Highlighting preventive strategies, she said vaccination remains a crucial tool in reducing the risk of cervical cancer. She explained the role of the HPV vaccine in preventing the disease and urged young people to prioritise health awareness.

The programme was part of a broader outreach initiative aimed at educating students on health, hygiene and gender-related issues, with a focus on building awareness and promoting preventive care.
