Lakhimpur Kheri: A 26-year-old school teacher was allegedly shot dead by a man inside a school in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri on Monday, following which the accused died by suicide at the spot, police said.
The deceased was identified as Nishat Fatima, while the accused was identified as Mohammad Saud Ansari, 28. The incident took place around 11.30am at Children’s Academy School on Shahpur Kothi Road.
According to the district’s senior superintendent of police, Saud had arrived at the school to meet Fatima. The two initially met on the ground floor before moving to the first floor.
While they were speaking in a corridor outside a Senior KG classroom, Saud allegedly took a country-made pistol from his bag and shot Fatima. He then shot himself. Both died at the scene, police said.
Family alleges harassment
Fatima’s brother, Shadab Akhtar, alleged in his complaint that Saud had been harassing her and pressuring her to marry him. According to the complaint, the family had warned Saud against the alleged harassment on several occasions.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the allegations made in the complaint.
