Patna, Sep 8 (IANS) BJP Bihar President Sanjay Saraogi criticised the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav, for writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the flood situation in the state, stating that he should not indulge in politics over the disaster and instead offer constructive suggestions to the government.
Tejashwi Yadav wrote to Prime Minister Modi on Monday, urging him to visit Bihar immediately in view of the flood situation. He also requested the Centre to provide immediate financial assistance of Rs 5,000 crore, along with all possible humanitarian and other necessary assistance to the state. He also urged the Centre to declare Bihar floods a national disaster.
Speaking to IANS, Saraogi said, “The Leader of the Opposition should not play politics over floods. He should offer suggestions to the government. How serious the Leader of the Opposition is about Bihar and the floods is clearly visible to everyone. He is the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He visits his constituency just to do a photo shoot, and after that, there is nothing.”
Saraogi said the state government was taking all necessary steps to provide relief to people affected by the floods.
“The Chief Minister is continuously conducting aerial surveys, visiting flood-affected areas and relief camps, checking the arrangements and ensuring that relief operations are carried out continuously,” he said.
He added that the flood situation in Bihar was influenced by factors beyond the state’s control.
“As you know, floods in Bihar are not entirely under Bihar’s control. Flooding in Bihar occurs due to international factors. Despite this, the government is working with great speed to assist flood-affected families and ensure proper arrangements at relief camps,” Saraogi said.
Reacting to the decision to allow LPG consumers to book a second cylinder within 25 days instead of the earlier 45-day period, Saraogi said the move would provide relief to households, particularly large families.
“People will get even more relief now. Earlier, a second cylinder could be booked in 45 days; now, it can be booked in just 25 days. Large families that consumed more gas were facing issues, but now daily life will become easier. The government will also ensure a smooth supply, making this a huge relief for the general public,” he said.
On the decision to close wine shops in West Bengal on Mahashtami, Saraogi welcomed the move and praised the state government’s decision.
“This is the correct decision by the Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari,” he said.
He added that the government had also announced financial assistance and relief measures for Durga Puja committees.
“Across Bengal, wherever Puja pandals are set up, he has decided to provide Rs 1 lakh to the committees, along with exemptions and relief in electricity charges. Durga Puja is the soul of Bengal. Along with people from Bengal, people from across the country visit Bengal for Durga Puja. The dignity of the festival is not enhanced by alcohol and noise,” Saraogi said.
