Mumbai, Sep 3 (IANS) Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held one-to-one meetings with senior industry leaders in Mumbai on Thursday as the state stepped up its investor outreach ahead of the 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS), with discussions covering major manufacturing projects, renewable energy, electric vehicles, copper recycling, textiles and financial services.
The meetings were held as part of a roadshow for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2027 at The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai.
Consul Generals are also scheduled to attend the evening roadshow, which is aimed at strengthening engagement with industry and the diplomatic community ahead of the summit.
Patel’s meeting with Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra focused on potential expansion of the group’s footprint in Gujarat, including opportunities in the electric vehicle ecosystem, future mobility and a possible presence in GIFT City.
The Chief Minister highlighted Gujarat’s port-led logistics infrastructure, industrial infrastructure and policy framework as factors supporting investment in advanced manufacturing and financial services.
During his meeting with Amit Harlalka, Chief Executive Officer of AM/NS India, Patel said the company had shared a vision to build the world’s largest steel manufacturing plant in Gujarat, with an ultimate capacity of 25 million tonnes.
“The company is making substantial progress on its ongoing capital investment programme of Rs 80,000 crore, targeted for completion by June, while also committing an additional Rs 10,000 crore towards major renewable energy and battery storage systems at Hazira,” the Chief Minister said in a post on social media platform X.
AM/NS India is already expanding its Hazira operations. The company had earlier announced a Rs 60,000 crore project to raise the plant’s capacity from 9 million tonnes per annum to 15 million tonnes.
Patel also met Satish Pai, Managing Director of Hindalco Industries, with discussions centred on expanding the company’s presence in Gujarat’s manufacturing sector, particularly in copper recycling, e-waste management and the circular economy.
The Chief Minister said they discussed the planned inauguration of Hindalco’s copper recycling plant in December, besides exploring further investment opportunities and sustainable industrial practices.
Patel also held talks with Dipali Goenka, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Welspun Living Ltd, on expanding the company’s manufacturing footprint in Gujarat, scaling up technical textiles and modernising operations.
According to CM Patel, Welspun’s manufacturing operations in Anjar in Kutch and Vapi form part of the company’s established presence in the state’s textile industry.
The discussions included the use of incentives available under the Gujarat Textile Policy 2024 to support expansion, exports, employment and skills development.
Welspun Living describes its Vapi facility as part of its integrated textile manufacturing operations in Gujarat.
The Mumbai roadshow comes days after Gujarat began a wider outreach campaign for VGGS 2027.
The state held a curtain-raiser in New Delhi on August 31, where CM Patel invited domestic and international investors to explore opportunities in manufacturing, new technologies and green growth.
The 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit will be held from January 10 to 12, 2027, under the theme ‘Viksit Gujarat – Shaping Global Future’.
The summit will place particular emphasis on emerging sectors including soft power, semiconductors, fintech, green hydrogen, artificial intelligence and green growth.
The latest round of meetings in Mumbai therefore brought together investment discussions across several of the sectors the state is seeking to develop through the upcoming summit, from large-scale steel and renewable energy projects to circular manufacturing, textiles, electric mobility and financial services.
