Bhubaneswar, Aug 24 (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday said that empathy, compassion, and sensitivity are the core principles of his administration, emphasising that resolving public grievances remains the state government’s top priority.
Majhi made the remarks while speaking to the media on the occasion of the 20th state-level public grievance hearing programme held at the Chief Minister’s Grievance Hearing Cell in Bhubaneswar. The Chief Minister heard the grievances of people along with 10 senior ministers of his cabinet and secretary-level officials from various departments.
Speaking on this occasion, the Chief Minister said, “Our government is the people’s government. Our government is giving top priority to listening to the people’s problems with sensitivity and resolving them. Wherever people have problems, our government definitely reaches there.”
CM Majhi also stated that during various natural disasters like floods, cyclones, and droughts, the state government reaches out to the people and provides them with assistance.
“By declaring the unseasonal rain of 2024 as a natural disaster, we had provided assistance. We have also provided an assistance package for the current floods. The Chief Minister said that our government is and will remain with the people in their happiness and sorrow,” Majhi added.
According to the state government, 95 per cent of all grievances received during the previous 19 state-level hearings have been resolved. In total, 14,519 out of 15,327 complaints were successfully addressed. At the district level, Collectors and Superintendents of Police regularly hear public grievances, while grievance hearings are also being conducted at the tehsil and block levels.
The government, in an official statement, revealed that till the end of July, as many as 2,69,394 grievances have been heard at the district level, of which 87 per cent were resolved.
During Monday’s hearing, Majhi first met persons with disabilities and those suffering from serious illnesses who were waiting outside the grievance cell. He received their petitions and directed officials to take immediate steps to address their problems.
CM Majhi also heard the grievances of registered complainants inside the grievance cell. The Chief Minister sanctioned Rs 14.50 lakh in medical assistance through the single-window system for 16 persons suffering from various serious illnesses. More than 600 grievance petitions were received through both online and offline modes on Monday.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and other senior ministers were present during the grievance hearing.
