Kolkata, Aug 8 (IANS) Following the murder of a local Trinamool Congress worker in Malda district’s Mothabari area, a complaint has been lodged against a Congress leader and his brother for the murder, said the police on Saturday.
A Trinamool worker was hacked to death in the Bangitola market area under Mothabari police station in Malda. The deceased’s name is Nasiruddin Ahmed. He had recently returned home after being released from jail.
A complaint has already been filed against two persons by the family of the deceased. The complaint has been filed against a Congress block president Dulal Sheikh and his brother Firoz Sheikh. According to the police, the murder is alleged to have been committed over an old dispute over the recovery of money owed by the Congress leader.
The Trinamool worker Nasiruddin’s brother claimed that after being released from judicial custody Nasiruddin had gone to ask for Rs 80,000 from Congress block president Dulal Sheikh which he owed. The dispute started as soon as he went to ask for that money.
The police said that due to the money dispute, the Trinamool Congress worker had attacked the Congress leader for which he was arrested and subsequently sent to judicial custody. After spending three months in judicial custody, the Trinamool Congress worker was released earlier this week. The family alleged that the Congress leader had a grudge against Nasiruddin as he had attacked him. Therefore, the family alleged that Nasiruddin was killed due to that dispute.
On Friday, Nasiruddin had gone out to buy medicine for his son. There Firoz Sheikh was accused of attacking him on the street. When Nasiruddin fled from there, he was attacked again. This time by Dulal Sheikh and Firoz Sheikh. He was allegedly hacked to death.
A senior officer of Malda district police said, “A complaint has been filed against the two accused persons by the family of the deceased. A case has been registered based on that. The accused are absconding. A search has started for them. Meanwhile, the body of the man has been sent for autopsy. Investigation is on.”
