J&K CM, L-G express concern over bus accident involving Amarnath Yatris (Ld)

Srinagar, July 28 (IANS) As 39 Amarnath Yatris were injured on Tuesday in a road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed concern over the mishap.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep concern over the road accident at Gund, Kangan, in which several pilgrims returning to Srinagar after performing the Yatra were injured. He has directed that the injured be provided the best possible medical care and deputed Health Minister Sakina Itoo to visit SKIMS and oversee their treatment.

L-G Sinha said he spoke with the Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal and health officials to enquire about the condition of the injured pilgrims.

He said 39 pilgrims returning after paying obeisance at the holy cave shrine sustained injuries in the accident at Hariganiwan and are undergoing treatment at SKIMS.

L-G Sinha said he had directed health officials to ensure all necessary assistance and the best possible medical care for the injured. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the pilgrims.

39 Amarnath Yatra Pilgrims were injured after the bus carrying Yatris back from Amarnath met with an accident in Hariganiwan area of Ganderbal district. Officials said the accident occurred when the driver of the bus lost control on the wheel and the vehicle skidded into a gorge.

A joint rescue operation was immediately launched by Gund Police under the supervision of Station House Officer (SHO) Rayees Ahmad, assisted by personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), 118 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 2 Assam Rifles, 21 Rashtriya Rifles, Yatra Police and local residents.

All the injured pilgrims were safely evacuated from the accident site and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The injured pilgrims are residents of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. Officials said all of them are receiving medical treatment, while the condition of the injured is being closely monitored. Police have taken cognizance of the incident, and the exact cause of the accident is being investigated.
