Jaipur, July 23 (IANS) The SC/ST Court in Tonk has set 6 August as the deadline to arrest independent candidate Naresh Meena, accused of slapping an SDM during the Deoli‑Uniara by‑election, after cancelling his conditional bail.
Acting on the court’s directions, the Nagarfort police have also sought details of his movable and immovable assets for submission before the court.
The High Court had granted Meena conditional bail after nearly nine months in jail. However, the SC/ST Court cancelled the bail on 13 July, citing violation of bail conditions after his subsequent arrest during a protest in Jhalawar. An arrest warrant was issued the same day.
Nagarfort SHO Rajendra Tada said the court has directed the police to arrest Meena by 6 August, and the department is taking action to comply with the order.
Following the court’s instructions, the Nagarfort police have initiated the process of collecting details of Meena’s assets. SHO Rajendra Tada said a letter has been sent to the Sarpanch (Administrator) of Nayagaon (Nanwata) Gram Panchayat in Mothpur tehsil of Baran district, seeking records of his movable and immovable properties.
The letter, referring to the case registered at Nagarfort police station, requests that the information be provided at the earliest so it can be submitted before the court.
Meena had secured conditional bail from the High Court in the Deoli‑Uniara by‑election case after spending around nine months in jail. However, after he was arrested again during a protest in Jhalawar, the SC/ST Court ruled that he had violated the conditions of his bail and cancelled it on 13 July, ordering his re‑arrest.
Meanwhile, Meena’s associate Rakesh Bainsla alleged that the government is trying to curb Meena’s growing popularity by keeping him behind bars ahead of the upcoming Panchayat Raj elections. He claimed the move is aimed at silencing the voices of farmers, labourers, students, and other marginalised sections.
