
Kolkata, July 20 (IANS) The police on Monday arrested one more person in connection with the explosion at a house in Rajarhat last week. The number of arrests in this incident has increased to three.
According to the police, the Narayanpur police station in Rajarhat arrested a youth after questioning the main accused, Mohammad Shamim alias Selim.
It is learnt that the name of the arrested person is Mohammad Hossain. The police arrested him from the Rajbati area of Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas district. They are investigating how he is involved in this incident.
The police will take him into custody and interrogate him further.
Earlier, the main accused Shamim and a broker named Shahenshah were arrested in connection with the explosion.
Late Friday night (July 17), an explosion occurred in a house in the Supari Bagan area of Dakshin Narayanpur in Rajarhat, on the northern outskirts of Kolkata.
One person was injured in the explosion. Officers of Narayanpur police station started an investigation and detained two persons. The bomb squad went to the scene and recovered two more fresh bombs.
Later, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the investigation of the incident. Forensic experts also went to the spot to investigate the real cause and source of the explosion.
During the investigation, the police learned that a person named Mohammad Shamim had rented the house through a broker named Shahenshah a few days ago.
He had kept bombs in the house, which had exploded. Members of the bomb squad had also recovered two fresh bombs from the house a day after the explosion.
After interrogating the main accused, Mohammad Shamim, the police learned of the involvement of Mohammad Hossain. The police are now investigating why the bombs were kept in that house and for what purpose they were stored.
The police are also trying to find out if anyone else is involved in this.
