Delhi BJP marks PM Modi’s 12-year tenure with cleanliness drives

New Delhi, June 17 (IANS) Delhi BJP leaders marked the completion of 12 years of the Narendra Modi-led government with cleanliness drives and public outreach programmes across the national capital on Wednesday, highlighting governance achievements and ongoing development initiatives.

Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, speaking on the occasion, praised the Prime Minister’s leadership and said India’s transformation would be remembered in history.

He said, “We are all fortunate to be witnessing the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with our own eyes. In the years to come, history books will record and teach that the transformation of India and its journey toward becoming a major global power began and gained momentum during Prime Minister Modi’s tenure. The fact that we are witnessing this ourselves is a matter of great pride…”

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said, “The Prime Minister’s slogan is ‘Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.’ The journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047 passes through the path of cleanliness. From this perspective, today’s cleanliness campaign envisions a Delhi that is clean, beautiful, environmentally friendly, and pollution-free…”

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra participated in a cleanliness drive organised by the party to mark the completion of 12 years of the central government. The initiative focused on promoting cleanliness and civic responsibility across the city.

Malhotra also reflected on the Prime Minister’s early governance priorities, saying, “In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation for the first time as Prime Minister from the ramparts of the Red Fort. He spoke about two major issues. One was cleanliness, and the other was linking Aadhaar cards with bank accounts…”

Earlier, on June 14, Speaker Vijender Gupta and BJP President Harsh Malhotra had joined party workers and MPs in a large-scale cleanliness campaign along the banks of the Yamuna. The drive aimed to promote environmental awareness and support ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the river.

Speaking during the campaign, Speaker Gupta said a clean Yamuna is essential for a healthy capital and a secure future. He emphasised that the true significance of festivals like Chhath Puja could only be realised when devotees are able to offer prayers on clean ghats and the river flows in its natural state.

The cleanliness drive, organised as part of the 12-year celebrations of the Modi government, aimed to encourage public participation in environmental conservation and strengthen ongoing efforts to restore the Yamuna’s ecological health and heritage.
