Davos, Jan 23 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said the state has successfully concluded its debut participation at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, unlocking new investment opportunities and strengthening Assam’s global economic outreach.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said he wrapped up Assam’s “successful Davos debut” after engaging with a wide cross-section of global business leaders, policymakers and changemakers. He said the engagements have paved the way for significant outcomes that will benefit the state in the long term.
“Wrapped up Assam’s successful Davos debut as I met over 200 business leaders and interacted with a host of changemakers. I head back to Bharat with a lot of learning and with a lot of new opportunities unlocked for Assam,” Sarma said, adding that the outcomes of the visit would be shared after his return to the state.
According to official details, Assam signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth around Rs 1 lakh crore during the Davos meetings, reflecting strong global investor confidence in the state’s growth potential and policy framework. The Chief Minister held over 35 bilateral meetings with leading industry representatives across sectors such as infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, technology and agri-based industries.
During the visit, Sarma also met diplomats from more than 20 countries, highlighting Assam’s strategic importance in India’s Act East Policy and its emerging role as a gateway to Southeast Asia. These interactions, officials said, focused on exploring opportunities for trade, investment, technology transfer and cultural exchanges.
In addition, the Chief Minister participated in three multilateral sessions, where he highlighted Assam’s development journey, investment-friendly policies and the Northeast’s growing economic relevance. He reiterated that Assam follows a focused investment approach, treating every investor with equal importance.
Sarma said the Davos engagements were aimed not merely at attracting investments but also at gaining global insights, best practices and partnerships that can help shape Assam’s future growth. He added that the state’s presence at the global forum marks a new chapter in its efforts to integrate with global value chains.
The Chief Minister’s participation at Davos is being seen as a milestone in positioning Assam as an emerging investment destination on the global stage.
