17 dead, 45 injured after bus veers off road in Dhaka

Dhaka: A tragic accident in Bangladesh has resulted in 17 fatalities and left 45 others injured. The incident took place when a passenger bus veered off the road and plunged into a roadside waterbody in a district approximately 200 kilometers south of the capital, Dhaka, on a Saturday morning.

According to Muhammed Afruzul Huqe Tutul, the district’s police chief, 13 passengers lost their lives on the spot. The injured individuals were rushed to local hospitals and clinics, where four more succumbed to their injuries.

As some of the injured passengers are in critical condition, there is a possibility that the death toll may rise, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

The accident appears to have been caused by the driver’s loss of control over the bus, leading to the tragic plunge into the waterbody. Authorities are likely conducting investigations to understand the circumstances that led to this devastating incident.
