Gurugram (Haryana): The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has won yet another national accolade — the Award of Excellence in Urban Transport 2025 conferred by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The recognition comes under the category “The State Which Has Implemented the Best Urban Transport Projects During the Previous Year” for KSRTC’s ‘Dhvani Spandana’ (Voice Pulse) initiative under Mysuru Urban Transport.
The project — India’s first Onboard Bus Identification and Navigation System — has been successfully implemented in 200 city buses in Mysuru. Designed to assist visually impaired passengers, the system has significantly enhanced their confidence, safety, and freedom of travel.
The award was presented to KSRTC Managing Director Akram Pasha by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal and Minister of State Tokan Sahu.
About ‘Dhvani Spandana’ (Voice Pulse)
Developed by IIT Delhi’s Raised Lines Foundation in collaboration with GEZ, Germany, the Dhvani Spandana system enables visually impaired commuters to identify buses and locate entrances through voice-based prompts. Over 400 visually impaired users in Mysuru have already been trained to use the technology.
Implemented through a collaboration between government agencies, academic institutions, and NGOs, the initiative has been hailed as a model urban mobility project for inclusive public transport in India.
